Like Trump or Hate Trump
You have to understand that his track record for leadership is strong, compelling, and effective. He is what the baby boomer Americans want to be for themselves. When he says something, people believe him. He appears genuine and has a knack for saying what the vast majority of his audience has wanted to be said. But what makes him so great of a leader for America?
Rest assured, it is impossible to blame his prowess in leadership on his policy, because he has not gotten into detail about much of it except taxes.
It is not his business experience because most of his business life is quite private and hidden in-between a multitude of shell companies. His income and networth seem to be evasive figures and so do his tax returns.
So this remains one thing: branding. And salesmanship. If you notice, when he was asked any question, he had a formula for every answer. 1. Isolate the question, 2. Personalize the interrogator, 3. Rephrase his slogan to fit the question, and 4. Blame the opposition for being unfit, and give a very, very simple but resonating reason why.
This is a genius approach to win every arguement. If you notice also, he almost always agreed with his opposition’s complaints too. He didn’t take accountability for any of his wrongdoings, or whatever the opposition claimed was wrong, but he agreed with them. Agreement is sales rule #1. Whenever you agree with someone you simultaneously disarm them as well.
People are wired to stop attacking when their opponent appears harmless, and that is what Trump managed to accomplish in every debate – agree, isolate, state, turn around. This is basically a sales call. And this method required absolutely no experience in politics, nor does it require any stated policy decisions – that is why he won without giving anybody any details about his plans. For the same reason, he will be a formidable negotiator to foreign leaders.
Although I do not personally endorse either political party, I am happy that a true salesman got in office. Whatever he does or does not accomplish is not as important is the resonating images and hope that America can be, and probably still is (by a long shot) quite great.
